Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy Part 2

Friday Morning, day of Plus Night Out 2013.  Here I am scrambling to get my son and I ready for the day after my inefficient 3 hour 'nap' that night. Teeth Brushed, Pancakes made, eaten and all dressed to go my baby is at school while I have to figure whether my make-up artist can make it cause she had a prior obligation and wasn't sure if she would be able to glam me up before the big event... MAJOR dilemma as I CAN NOT walk into Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC for one of the biggest Plus Night Fashion events of the year without a professionally beat face.  In total damage control mode, I move to figure out a plan B.. Brainstorming with my good friend Anjerie, she suggests her friend whom I've met before Phoenix Bullen of FashionizKaotic,  a well know NYFW Make-Up artist and creator of her own fabulous lip scrubs, to come through for me CLUTCH. We waited and waited  for the in demand MUA to get back to me as I was aware via her Facebook she was up just as late as I was with all this NYFW 'Kaos'. She gets back to me and we schedule a time so I can roll my hair and get all the other beautification processes underway.

(FashionIzKaotic and Lucky Lucy Brand Ambassador Phoenix Bullen's Lip Scrub and Business Card... More products coming soon!!!)

Its now 1pm and Phoenix arrives to save the day!! So happy she was able to come through last min you have NO IDEA!!!  Professional and ready to rock  I describe to her what Barbie's vision was for the dress... Dark and dramatic smoky eyes with a deep red lip. Phoenix gave my face a major 'PowPow' doing so in great timing so that I could book it to Harlem, dress with Barbie and then shoot straight over to Hotel Pennsylvania to begin my interviews.

I literally am RUNNING to make it to Harlem by 330 and thank God I managed to get there in time. Both Barbie Armstong of the Epitome of Sexy and her assistant, Rosa, scramble to get me out the door. We unroll hair, touch up make up, adjust boobs and now I am off to Plus Night Out. I have a few special moments to myself which I use to gain my thoughts and focus on what I'm heading out to do. This is going to be fun..

My special someone is texting me and being his usual supportive self but I take it in stride because we are not in sync at the moment. His love is another thing I believed was worth it, but just never came easy so I'm beginning to make amends to move forward.  Six months is a long enough time for me to make peace with how our relationship is not transpiring how I had hoped. I desire him... more than anything.. but what I seek in any all and all types of relationships, whether business or personal, is to feel peace within my mind, heart and spirit when moving forward. For me there were too many disappearing games on his side to have these feelings continue towards him and no matter how much I try to convince myself otherwise he just wasn't willing to love me the way I need, want and deserve. The saddest part of it all is I love him more than he believes I do.. or wants to believe I do and that leaves me with feeling unsure as to what his true intentions were with me. When I try to communicate my feelings he makes like he understands and that somehow we'll be ok but soon after I'm met with disappointment in what I call 'The Same Ol' Two Step" ... That's what hurts most. I trust he has the best intentions but his actions are an insane amount of decibels louder than his words. My happiness is of great importance to me and seeing how I know my worth I have to take a step back and remind him and myself "Aint Nobody Got Time For That!!" Mutual love and respect should not be forced so on that note.......

I arrive to Hotel Pennsylvania and in true Nicole fashion I am breaking necks. Mello Andrews, CEO/Editor and Chief of Full Blossom Magazine has not yet arrived and so I get a head start on some informal interviews introducing myself on behalf of the company. Plus night out attendees where greeted by lovely models all uniformed in green and cream colored outfits. I spotted Curvy Models Rocks Cover Contest Winner Michela Cheri and my girl Techla IslandMusiq Nesbett as two of my welcoming models.

I make my way backstage and my first encounter is with Dyna Reeves of Intimates Plus. We hit it off so well and I immediately fell in love with her and her collection! We discussed how she began her boutique store and much like a lot of plus fashion entrepreneurs, she had trouble finding lingerie made for the fuller figure. Dyna sought change by seeking quality lingerie designs and making them accessible to the public via her website and boutique. Intimates Plus offers lingerie in sizes 10 +.

Some other designers I fell in love with were Serita Bell, with her modern day women's wear collection, you will see Serita has designed by taking inspiration from styles seen on the busy streets of NYC, making them accessible to the curvy woman.   Another great designer duo are Shuchi Sharma and Anjula Sharma, the ladies of F3 Full Figures Fashionista.  With their fashion forward line you will find some funky go to pieces that can be taken from the office to the club. Make sure you check back with them on Sept 25th for the relaunch of their website. I promise you will NOT be disappointed!

Lastly before the chaos of the night ensued I got to speak with JustRamona of JustRamonaEnv New York , designer and reality TV star of Lifetimes 24 Hour Catwalk. When speaking with her about the collection I was really excited to see color. Dressed in all black I had felt the need to stress to her my LOVE vibrant colors on the full figure. With Raymona's history as a patternmaker we saw her execute a great pattern on this wonderfully designed maxi dress with hoodie to wrap around for fall. Loved this collection but talking with Raymona and understanding how she developed as a designer was really the most inspiring part.

Mello, Co-Founder and Editor and Chief of Full Blossom Magazine has arrived as I make my way to the entrance where everyone can be seen. With interviews and photo ops conducted, I myself got to talk with former Ford model Catherine Shuller who is now working with Yotel in NYC to bring us ALL INCLUSIVE Fashion Shows which will feature Standard and Plus Size Models as a way to bridge the gaps between what should be one huge fashion force!!  I made mention of how much I fell in love with Catherine's spirit at a Full Blossom event around my birthday in February. In a room full of wall flowers it was Catherine who managed to get the party started on the dance floor!! I'm so excited for Catherine Schuller and look forward to hearing more about these up coming fashion shows which will be hosted by Ms. Schuller herself at The Yotel, NYC... STAY TUNED!!

(The incredible Catherine Shuller and I during our interview for Full Blossom TV... Photo Courtesy of Full Blossom Magazine)

Now every one is making their way to their seats so the show can begin. I spy with my little eye Gwen DeVoe, Creator of Full Figured Fashion Week and Monique Walton Creative Director of Ashley Stewart. Jovanna Reyes, visionary behind Plus Night Out, sets off the evening and then passes the Mic over to Plus Night Out's MC , Joanne Borgella, Designer & Nuvo TV Curvy Girls Reality TV Star. The Show begins and All the designers I spoke with backstage did not disappoint with their collections. Even the designers I did not get to speak with such as Chocolate Sushi Couture, Cotrice, or the Corporate Sponsor of the evening, Ashley Stewart all had Stellar Collections and I was truly blown away at how much Plus Fashion has grown over the years.

I loved the print and look of Ashley Stewarts Blackcherry Houndstooth Jeggings. The curves filled out really nicely and the pattern was noticeable but not distracting. Overall, the feel of the collection is contemporary attire which can easily be worn from the office to an evening out. We are seeing a lot of burgundy in this seasons AS Collection. I enjoyed the funky HoundStooth prints found on a few of the designs AS has implemented this season in both pants and tops. This Houndstooth styled dress from Ashley Stewart is one I need in my collection ASAP!!

Mid way during the show the raunchy and insanely hysterical comedienne Luenell made a special appearance!!! I have been a fan of hers since seeing her perform during Kat Williams American Hustle Comedy special. She was digging the Ashley Stewart Collection and after being called out by our Hostess she comedically ran over to the Ashley Stewart ladies to talk some 'business'.

It was certainly a special evening for curvy fashions and the women who wear them. Many beautiful models were present including the likes of my fellow Full Blossom Faces Michele Hilton & Andrea Jackson, Nicole Zepeda, Stephanie Mallik, and Ask Mocha, Runway Diva Jeannie Ferguson of B.G.U clothing and I got to meet former Face of Full Figure Fashion Week Vanessa Delarosa, just to name a very small few as there was no shortage of beautiful women representing for the curvy girls.

(The Gorgeous Ask Mocha Backstage during PNO 2013)

(Personality, Charm and Beauty Nicole Zepeda Showing all smiles Backstage for PNO 2013)

The party wasn't over yet!! Full Blossom was hosting the official Plus Night Out after party at The Stellan NYC and most all the models were sure to be in the building to let loose after an extreme long day of prepping and strutting. After a brief time spent networking I made my way to the model changing area to put on my second look of the night so I can head over to the after party where I was going to meet with my friend Andre the photographer. You all remember him, don't you??

Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy- A Three Part Series

This whole week has been XPONENTIALLY XHAUSTING but XHILIRATING all the same between my son starting his first week in Kindergarten (my baby is getting so big!) and prepping to cover as both interviewer and Model for TWO major events during New York Fashion Week; Plus Night Out and Beauty With a Pure Purpose. The balancing act between Mommy and Model is an increasingly eye opening and exciting challenge. There is always something new to experience and I’m finding it more and more rewarding to just embrace by engaging with it all…. The name of the game is To Claim!!! On my continuing journey of walking to the beat of my own drum, I find the tempo quickening with every click of my heels…… In all my curvy gloriousness, I refuse to believe I cannot  and will not have it all.

This journey of mine begins on a Thursday morning. After dropping my son to school I proceeded downtown with my girlfriend and make-up artist Beauty by Zsa-Zsa who has a job interview with a reputable make -up company and is using my face to showcase her skills. They placed us in a scenario, (me getting married, LOL) and so I begin doing my best Meryl Streep, offering an imaginary wedding on the beach as inspiration and Zsa Zsa gets to work. By end of her interview my face was slayed and Zsa Zsa was feeling more than confident she landed the gig.

(The Final Product.. Zsa Zsa and Myself)

It was a quick journey downtown and we head back to The Bronx so I could pick my boy up from his school. We snapped some pics for instagram and as the summer sun faded into storm clouds I managed to make it back before the real damage was done… or so I thought….

With a few hours before my baby would be out of class I had some time to get my things together for my second journey downtown later that evening for my fitting with Sebastian Threadz, one of the designers I had the pleasure of walking for during the Beauty with a Pure Purpose Cancer and Alopecia Benefit.  I leave my house certain I was not going to be as lucky with the storm clouds this time around as they are more intimidating than the earlier set  I proceed to head out with the one, tiniest mind you, umbrella I could find. At this point it is what is it and I had to boogie.
SOON AS I get off the train at 34th street Penn Station  TORRENTIAL downpours make it so that me and my rinky dink umbrella do not stand a chance. Obviously I cannot walk into a fitting drenched to the core so I seek shelter under the train awning and after 15 minutes of a typical NYC I need to be somewhere so why not monsoon moment, I suck it up and make my way to my destination notwithstanding  stepping into a calf deep NYC UGH Puddle in my sandals.. Uber Gross but I MADE IT!!! Designer Lynn and her assistant On, were all smiles and so super cool upon my arrival to Simple Studios and because of their flawless designs the super funky Black Dress I was to wear needed little adjustments and I was literally in and out of there in no time.  So now I’m onto the Next one…..
In Harlem NY im scheduled to meet with ‘Eptiome of Sexy’ Stylist and MUA Barbie Armstrong so she can fit me for the MAJOR Designer NYFW Runway show Plus Night Out. I enter her apt and we connected after not working with each other since our shoot for 'Epitome of Sexy' featured in Full BlossomMagazine, hence my connection to the fantastic Barbie (Being the face of Full Blossom comes with some perks ; )

I am immediately just in awe of the collection of fabulous designs, shoes and jewelry pieces Barbie has in her arsenal!! I take a deep breath of relief because I know I’m in excellent hands and of course the first dress I put on is THE DRESS!! Designed by Barbie Armstrong and sewn by a woman who was the seamstress for The Supremes, this dress, with its boning and the ruching was so perfectly executed and is a rarity and I felt so honored to wear it.  With Barbie’s flair for the Avant Garde you can see where the cross between elevated sophistication and feminine sexiness intertwine in this piece. This dress loved my curves as much as I loved wearing it. We next decided on a black mini dress for the Full Blossom Party at The Stellan from Fashion to Figure and she hooked it up  jewelry, shoes, hair & make-up concept, EVERYTHING.
I left out of Barbies Fashion Palace feeling hella awesome. The movements I’m making mixed with knowing I have a team of reliable people in my corner is what I’ve been working so hard towards.  Time has escaped me once again and it is now 1:30 AM so you know it!!! I gotta Boogie!! My son will be getting up for school at 7 am and I still have to trek it back to the Bronx. Nothing worth having comes easy… This normally half hour ride home took me about 1 ½ hours thanks to good ol’ MTA!! Here it is now 3am  and I’m walking in my door getting ready to take it down for my big day wearing this amazing dress, trying not to let the fact that I’m representing Full Blossom Magazine interviewing at Plus Night Out circle in my mind.

I have to get some type of rest so I meditate on reminding myself that these are the moments I’ve been working for. Now is the time for me to accept that this really is my moment and to see where the next level will take me….

Curvy Chaos ~ My Interivew with Charli Baltimore, Almost Interview with Tiffany Fox and the Stress Between

I have deemed 2013  the year of 'Taking the Good with the Bad.' It seems within every significantly positive movement forward there has been an attempt, by whatever dark force that has it out for me, to deter me away from my destiny. I'm Gods Child and the Devil is a Liar. The trick to avoiding the could've, would've's is to keep moving through No Matter What.. It's true what they say... You can be so close to attaining your dream, if you give up when the road gets bumpy you will unknowingly and unfortunately forfeit all the hard work which put you in position. I thank God for my friend who didn't let me quit when I felt my career as a model wasn't going anywhere. Its because of this friend that I am able to say I have become a known Curvy Model in the NYC circuit continuing to build my network in the US and around the world as blogger of the amazing Curvy Models Rock, and as one of the The Faces of Full Blossom Magazine, a Lifestyle magazine which contributes to reflecting positive images of Curvy Women. (So on a personal note, Thank You Ty. I don't really think you know how instrumental you were in helping me stay focused and not give up.)

Being a part of the Full Blossom family has been a great blessing which has allowed me to model for Designers and Stylists, now re-opening doors for me as an interviewer. It hadn't been long since my departure from Under Lock and Key TV in the Bronx NY which showcased underground as well as known talents; so it was a no brainer Mello Andrews Co-Founder, Editor and Chief of Full Blossom Magazine would call me to interview with FemCee Charli Baltimore about her upcoming mixtape release 'Hard to Kill'. To mw though, it was a straight up blessing.  This phone call to conduct this interview solidified for me that even when one doors closes, if its meant for you, God will open up a window. It's been a long journey that's not over by a long shot.. But of course, nothing worth having comes easy..

Tuesday is my most hectic day of the week. That is the day I contribute to Curvy Models Rocks. I spend such a great deal of time making sure to put the work in so that you, my readers, feel like this is not just another dictating blog of what to wear, who to like and where to go. I want you to feel my experience of the day, thoughts, setbacks and triumphs. So here we are and I'm focused on bringing you all a piece of me when the phone rings early afternoon with Mello asking me to conduct an interview with Ms. Baltimore AND Lil Kim's up coming artist Tiffany Fox. While I'm crazy excited,  here we go cause its last minute and I had already made plans to help my model friend and Stylist (Remember Monet Solomon, whom I met during the Ashley Stewart Denim Event???) empty out the rest of her storage.. I'm a loyal person so I set out to make good on my promise and help her find someone who will take this glass dinette table off her hands. We head over to the spot I bartend at in what was a most uncomfortable and very unappreciative exchange with no thank you real gratitude shown and we end up leaving the place hella peeved that we even went through so much trouble for pretty much nothing. Hindsight is 20/20 cause I end up missing my interview with Tiffany Fox for being tardy and now the bar which has this lovely glass table calls me the week after to fire me due to "lack of patrons" Well isn't that fucking grand -_-

Forward motion....

Can't look back now what's done is done and here Monet and I are scrambling to get ready for this interview in her car.. Monet styles me with this fab gold plated belt, necklace, bracelet and an ear cuff and some SICK shoes. We book it to the city as fast as we could but like I said even with all this effort, I didn't make it to interview with Tiffany Fox. Mello covered for me and rightly so her manager is peeved. I managed to get a photo opp with Ms. Fox. I say my apologies for the umpteenth time in the hopes I can salvage some future relationship, cause you just never know. I then make my way over to Gansevoort Park Hotel where Charli Baltimore is hosting her final interviews of the day.

The Gansevoort... There are no words for this place.. First off, no matter how much you LOVE high heels THEY HURT!! Especially for my curvy self and sexy as they are..  well its not called "Shoe-icide" for nothing. Lucky for me, here at this heavenly adult playground there are plush carpets throughout so you can walk confident and comfortable in your highest of heels without looking awkward.

We begin our search high and low to find the suite where Charli Baltimore and her camp are set up and finally we find her room. We are the absolute last interview of the evening as the entourage is chowing down on some well deserved pizza, even offering Mello, Monet and Myself some food. I politely decline cause I'm really not trying to have pizza breath up in Charli B's face; but damn my stomach is on Moufassa status at this point. Moving on I'm trying really hard to focus on the questions with anxiety creeping up about my earlier mishap and even more because Charli is a well respected FemCee in the Hip Hop world.

Here we go!! Its Full Blossom Magazine TV's time to interview.

We enter the hotels bedroom where two chairs are set up turned towards each other. Charli looks amazing in this Black and White print Romper with Fredrick Lim Thigh High open toe shoes. I mean she was killing it. We move forward to get this interview underway because poor Charli had been on the press circuit promoting her Mixtape 'Hard To Kill' for 18 hrs, having interviewed with all the major Press outlets in NY. As we sit down and the nerves take over. I'm thinking to myself, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU DONE THIS NICOLE??? Don't syke yourself out, you got this.

I had a smooth run with questions flowing. Made a few mistakes with the Mic exchange back and forth but I still managed to keep a decent flow going and then BAM.. BLANK... What question would I ask next? Where is this going? I don't want generic questions.. I don't want to talk about her past I want to talk about her new Mixtape and CUT! With heart palpitations on the rise I was able to collect myself after a brief moment to get back on track. Charli and I commenced the interview. I'm digging her demeanor and considering her tiring day she remained calm amidst my stumble and we just got back to kicking it talking about her comeback, family and how she viewed the industry.

We wrapped up and a smile of YES comes over Charli's face, because our wrapping signified the ending to her tiresome day. All smiles she obliged our taking pictures for our instagrams and photo opps for the magazine. Her management BMB was in the room discussing some final details with Mello and I said my goodbyes thanking everyone for their time. Professional always but boy was I glad it was over.

So now here it is the FBM TV interview with Charli Baltimore talking about her mixtape 'Hard to Kill' which will be released Sept 17th. (Make sure you look out for that) I watched our interview and immediately pick up on me using the word 'Definitely' one too many times but regardless and considering the stress of that day in particular, I'm not at all mad with how the interview it went down.. Live and Learn.  Forward Motion

Every time I do this I will get better and that's all I have to know and believe. Experience is the best teacher and I am Life's Disciple. Much like the theme of my year, my day was filled with many great moments and equally not so great moments but the point is I pushed. I walked through those doors to interview Tiffany Fox knowing I was late, knowing my intention wasn't to be, knowing I am a firm believer in respecting peoples time but being unsuccessful regardless. I refuse to kick myself for that anymore than I already have. Everyday I'm learning and growing and becoming better at my craft(s). I know much like Charli Baltimore, I will have my come back and be stronger than ever.

Let's hear it for YOUR CURVES!!!

I love my curves.. This is no secret..  Since I believe there is no better way to celebrate your body than moving that Twerkable Tush to the music your curves naturally 'Turn Up' to, I've taken the liberty of compiling Songs which Celebrate our Lusciousness!! Music and Artists who show nothing but LOVE for the "Big Girls"!!! How Dope is that!!!

First up MICA!! With his song singing what we all already know which is  'Big Girls Are Beautiful!!'' ok maaaaayyybe I get thrown off a bit by the "walks in to the room, feels like a big balloon" part but its backed by the super light hearted, Fun and Celebratory Themed Video with all types of Buxom Beauties dancing Carnival Style in the street. Love the natural feel to this music video as the crowd seems to be drawn in organically.. POW!! That's the Power of Plentiful Curves Baby!!

(Mica, Big Girl You Are Beautiful)

Next up is a classic... NOT ONLY cause we have Freddie Mercury on the vocals with his Legendary Band Queen but how awesome is it to hear about a boys coming of age tale with a Fat Bottom Girl Putting it on him SO GOOD he just had to Write a Song About it!!! Queen Reppin for My Queens!!!

(Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls)

Now when it comes to Reggae we all know about Romy and her big Fat Sister Naomi right?? But how many of you know about 'Sweet Suga Dumplins'?? Well let me tell YOU something.. This song was a childhood favorite about a man who does not shy away from the 'Fatti Bum Bum' and wants his intended to not feel ashamed about her size.. IRE!!!

(Carl Malcolm, Fatti Bum Bum)

Now this next song can be heard in the club and I swear when the DJ's play it its cause they see me breaking it DOWN on the Dance Floor!! With strong house and hip hop elements this song is way too much fun and will definitely water your wallflower. Next time you see me in the club make sure you "Watch out for the Big Girl"!! B MORE STAND UP!!!

(Baltimore Club Music, Watch Out For the Big Girls)

This song was re-introduced to me by my favorite Hood Aunt, Tina... (We all have one of those right?? Well if not get one.. You will always be entertained) Anyways, I remember crying over a dude back in the day and Tina, in Hood Auntie fashion, begins yelling at me..  Her words were, and I quote.. "Bitch! You crying over a Man?? WHAT?? WHY?? You are built like MUTHAFUCKIN' BRICKHOUSE...  Now Stop that Crying!!!" I was so in shock cause here I am wanting just a little sympathy but nope you won't get that from Hood Auntie.. And that's why we love her. Infamous for 'Aint Holdin Nothing Back' Hood Auntie Tina reminded me, if some man got you feeling down about who you are, kindly remind him and yourself how YOU TOO are a MuthaFuckin' Brickhouse and can surely make ANY MAN fall to his knees... Shake it Down, Shake it Down Down!!!!

(Commadores, Brickhouse)

Indie Soul Artist Anthony Hamilton takes it down a notch walking us into the chill zone with talks of enjoying a lovely stroll with 'Sista Big Bones'. Don't let the smooth vibe fool you.. Mr. Hamilton's  intentions are not all that innocent.. Who would mind taking the long way home with him Serenading your curves?? NOT I!! Shout out to Mo'nique for repping the big girls, even with her significant weight loss!!Congrats Boo!! (Someone tell Mo'nique I Luff Her!!!)

(Anthony Hamilton, Sista Big Bones)

Before I let you go I wanted to share my love for the Underground Music Scene in New York. I Bring you Mr Flint's "The Bigger they Are" music video celebrating Full Figures and using some of NYC's Hottest Plus Size Models as Video Vixens!! I spy with my little eye Techla IslandMusiq Nesbitt, YumYum, Vanessa mays-Hinds, and my Plus Model Sis/Fellow Face of Full Blossom Magazine Michele Hilton. I was SUPPOSED to be on the roster but I had another event scheduled that day.. Looked like A LOT of Fun though!!

I know there are SO MANY more songs to be added to this list so let's get interactive!!  Hit me up with what Music Muses your Body and has you feelin' yourself on the dance floor or better yet... In the Bedroom.... Oh Yea!
